Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The Internship is in the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme, which is part of the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. The Programme was established by the United Nations General Assembly, to mobilize civil society for Holocaust education and remembrance in order to prevent future genocide. The Outreach Programme continues to build a network of partnerships with civil society, governments, educators and organizations engaged in Holocaust education, research and commemoration. The Programme has developed a range of educational resources including multimedia products, teaching guides and exhibits, for use at United Nations Headquarters and in the field. The internship is available for TWO candidates. The internship is unpaid and full-time for a period of 6 months. The internship is in-person, unpaid and full-time but could also be part-time. When full time, interns work 35 hours, five days a week, and when part-time, they work less than 34 hours a week. Interns work in the United Nations Headquarters in New York under the supervision of a UN staff member to which they are assigned. Responsibilities Working under the supervision of a Public Information Officer, the interns will assist the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme team with its daily tasks. The selected interns may perform some of the following functions: - Conducting research on thematic issues related to the Holocaust and the United Nations Programme's mandate - Drafting, formatting, editing and posting original web site content/news stories, including graphics, photographs and video - Drafting social media content for the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme's Facebook and Twitter/X accounts - Assisting with planning and organization of lectures and events, including researching speakers, preparing invitations and promotional material - Maintaining the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme's databases - Providing general office support (including, for example, processing, drafting and finalizing correspondence and other communications; setting up and maintaining files/records, organizing meetings) - Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a)be enrolled in a graduate school programme in human rights, international relations, history, Holocaust studies, communications, media studies, or related fields (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b)be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in human rights, international relations, history, Holocaust studies, communications, media studies, or related field (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or c)have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Skills and experience in researching on thematic issues related to the Holocaust and the United Nations Programme's mandate are highly desirable. Skills and experience in writing, social media, graphic design and multimedia production are highly desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
